Evaluation of the pressor, cardiac, and renal hemodynamic properties of angiotensin II in man.

R ECENTLY, synthetic angiotensin II has become available for study. Page, Helmer, Braun-Menendez, and co-workers have demonstrated that this compound represents the reaction product of renin on the ao-globulin hypertensinogen. Intensive pharmacological studies conducted by the Cleveland group' 4i 3 and the Swiss have verified these observations that synthetic angiotensin I I is identical with the naturally occurring substance. The availability of this compound [Hypertensin-Ciba (Val-5-Angiotensin IIAsp-/?Amide)] prompted a comparison of its pressor and hemodynamic properties with those of norepinephrine in man.
